Minister without Portfolio Sulejman Ugljanin has made his first visit in that capacity to the Novi Pazar authorities led by rival Rasim Ljajić’s SDP.
Ugljanin, the former Novi Pazar municipal president, visited the town together with Culture Minister Nebojša Bradić.
After meeting with Mayor Mirsad Äerlek, he told journalists that all of Serbia, Novi Pazar included, was his work place and that the doors of the government would always be open to the city authorities.
This was his reply when asked whether his visit to the town, controlled by his arch rival’s Sandžak Democratic Party (SDP), which has been involved in a long-running conflict with Ugljanin’s Party of Democratic Action (SDA), heralded the beginning of a reconciliation.
Äerlek said that it was time for political dialogue to substitute the period where parties battled to “insult and belittle“ each other. “We have to build a better future for Novi Pazar together,“ stressed Äerlek.
The mayor is glad that Ugljanin’s SDA, which walked out of the local assembly’s constitutive session when the majority was formed by the SDA-led coalition and the United Serb list, has decided to resume its place in the assembly.
Ugljanin’s arrival at the assembly building was greeted by a group of 50 or so SDA supporters, who applauded and cheered him.
