PROTECTION OF WITNESS B

Posted on March 4, 2009 by BIRN

At the trial for crimes committed in Visegrad, the Trial Chamber renders a decision on the protection of a Defence witness.

The Trial Chamber, sitting in the case of Momir Savic, who is charged with crimes committed in Visegrad, rendered a decision ordering the examination, with no presence of the public, of one of the last Defence witnesses.

“The trial is due to continue on March 24, when witness B will be examined via video link. The public will be excluded from the trial during the course of his testimony,” Trial Chamber Chairman Saban Maksumic said.

Momir Savic, former commander of the Third Squad with the Visegrad Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, is charged with crimes against humanity committed in Visegrad in 1992.

The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges him, under eight counts, with taking part in the questioning, beating, persecution and murder of Bosniaks in Visegrad and the surrounding villages, as well as with the rape of one person.

Following the examination of witness B, Savic’s Defence will examine another witness via video link and thus complete its presentation of evidence.
