PRIME MINISTER: AUSTRALIA CELEBRATES BOSNIA’S NATIONAL DAY
Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined with the Bosnian and Herzegovinian community in Australia this week in celebrating Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ms Gillard said Australia has strong diplomatic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and welcomed the Bosnian contribution to Australian national life.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina has a rich cultural heritage and active community in Australia,” Ms Gillard said.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina and Australia share a common international goal of ensuring human rights and security for everyone is protected.”
The Member for Chifley, Ed Husic joined in the celebrations.
"I was enormously honoured to represent the Government at a special Bosnia and Herzegovina National Statehood Day Dinner held in Melbourne last Friday,” Mr Husic said.
"A packed reception celebrated not only the significance of the day but to recognise the contribution of so many Australian Bosnian Herzegovinians to community life across our country.
"I congratulate the Australian Council of Bosnian Herzegovina Organisations on hosting another successful evening and I join with the Prime Minister in passing on my best wishes for Statehood Day."
Ms Gillard said relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina were strengthened by the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Dr Russell Trood’s visit in March.
“I am confident the excellent relations that exist between Australia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to flourish in the year ahead,” Ms Gillard said.
