Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan travels to Greece today on a visit that he hopes will open a “new era” in ties between the two longtime rivals.
Erdogan is accompanied by 10 ministers who will take part in the first-ever meeting of a high-level “cooperation council” aimed at forging closer ties.
Turkey and Greece remain at odds over the divided island of Cyprus and boundaries in the Aegean Sea, but relations have improved in recent years.
Erdogan, speaking ahead of the two-day visit, said he would support a deal to reduce arms spending with Greece which is currently struggling with a debt-crisis. /RFE/RL/
